Concierge medicine is traditionally associated with higher monthly costs, accept and bill the patient’s medical insurance with home visit co-pays that continue to exist. Direct primary care is traditionally lower monthly cost that a member pays for direct access to a physician and do not accept any type of health insurance. The key differentiation between the two is whether a third party payer is involved.
I did home visiting primary care for a few years and absolutely loved the time spent with the patient at their house. It is an older model of medicine that I hope Physician’s will be able to return to. Traditional insurance medical practices have large overhead with an office, billing, medical assistants, and are forced to see patients on a strict timeline. Having a direct agreement of expectations with the patient in direct primary care, allows me to spend 30-60 minutes with my patient’s on home visits and provide them a high level of care while being respectful of their time. It also allows me to provide care via text, email, and telemedicine. Unfortunately, a traditional insurance-practice would not be able to do this. The volume of patients in a traditional practice in the several thousands and in direct primary care we at most in the hundreds.
No, this is due to state medical requirements in place for managing chronic pain. If you have chronic pain and opiates, our practice may not be the best for you, and recommend a pain specialist or pain management clinic.

Yes, you need to sign a waiver declaring that neither you or Dr. Jatoi will directly bill Medicare for medical services. Medicare will not pay Dr. Jatoi for any services you receive in the practice, your Medicare benefits will otherwise remain unchanged and can continue to be used for all other medical care received outside of the medical practice. Medicare will still cover laboratory testing, imaging, hospitalizations, and medications as prescribed by Dr. Jatoi.
Yes, we do recommend you have insurance to help augment the cost of additional testing, imaging, and hospitalization. However, we will work closely with you in finding the most affordable medication options and collaborate with labs and imaging in town for reasonable pricing.
No, Dr. Jatoi is an internist / Internal Medicine specialists, who specializes in patient’s age 18 or older.
No, Dr. Jatoi will coordinate care to be directly admitted to the hospital if needed. Dr. Jatoi has familiarity with Carondelet St. Mary’s, Carondelet St. Joe’s, and Tucson Medical Center. Dr. Jatoi has privileges at those hospitals and can coordinate direct care with those hospitalists if needed. If you prefer to go to one of the other hospitals in town, Dr. Jatoi will still coordinate closely with your hospitalist.
Dr. Jatoi’s work experience sets him apart from other primary care providers in the community. He has trained young Doctors and medical students as a Chief resident, worked in geriatrics doing home visits, cares for acutely ill patients in the hospital, then taking care of patients in the post-acute setting at a skilled nursing facility and serving as a medical director in both hospice and home health. Because of these responsibilities, Dr. Jatoi understands the critical role of catching illnesses early, preventative care, and have experience in treating patients on all spectrums of care. There are not many direct primary care Doctors that have this vast experience and ability to connect with their patients.
